GSM, The Worldwide Technology Of Choice.
Since the first systems began commercial operation in 1991, Global
Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) has become the globally
accepted standard. Wireless service operators around the world have
selected GSM-based technologies for their advanced digital wireless
communications networks. Hundreds of millions of subscribers use
GSM-based systems in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, the
Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, India, China and other countries.
In the past few years, operators and equipment manufacturers have been
working very diligently to adapt GSM technology for the North American
Personal Communications Services (PCS) market. The result is that
GSM-based PCS 1900 has been accepted by the American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) as a standard for the PCS frequencies
allocated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) at 1900 MHz.
