FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 5, 1999 - The North American GSM Alliance LLC announced today that it recently participated as the guest of British Trade International in its Networks-Telecom bilateral trade initiative in Birmingham England. Michael T. Houghton, representing the GSM Alliance, attended the world-wide trade development program jointly sponsored by the British Department of Trade and Industry and the U.K. Telecommunications Industry Association.
The three-day program included the Networks Telecom trade show (UK's premier international telecommunications event attracting more than 20,000 communications professionals), Computer Telephony Expo 99, selective meetings with key U.K. business firms, and a VIP export reception/dinner.
"Our goal is to bring telecommunications industry leaders and representatives from countries around the world together with British industry to encourage and promote business relationships," said Paul M. Klein, Vice Consul for telecommunications trade development with the British Consulate-General in Boston. "As the U.K. leads the U.S. in per capita use of wireless telecommunications and in the deployment of advanced wireless data and E-commerce technologies, we decided to host a representative of the GSM Alliance to promote business development between U.S. wireless operators and U.K. wireless data companies."
"This trip was extremely worthwhile on several levels," said Houghton. "In today's global marketplace, it is very important and valuable for American companies to have such an opportunity to dialogue and pursue business opportunities with companies from abroad."
